Rattler is a cider made by Healey's Cornish Cyder Farm. The brand's original concept relied on a comical cartoon rattle snake which had become synoymous with the drink. But, in 2009 Cornish Rattler Cyder was found to be in breach of the Portman Group's Code for the under-age appeal of its packaging. This could have been an oportunity for Healey's to create something new and exciting but instead changed the bottle design to a surfer holding a surfboard. I believe in doing this Rattler lost its identity which made it so popular and is now trying to cling onto the cliche of surfers in Cornwall. This is why I decided to re-brand the product in an attempt to bring back the excitement and character the product deserves.
The name Rattler comes from the type of apple which is used in the strong (6%) Cornish cider, because of this I decided to use the rattle snake as a base for the brand. Rattle snakes are dangerous, alluring and lethal-a fitting animal to represent the cider with a bite. The brand makes references to the biblical story of Adam and Eve being tempted by the snake, and the poisoned apple in the fairytale Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. These elements add excitement and danger to the brand, daring the consumer to try the product, asking Can You Handle The Bite?
